Mexico City, December 15, 2005 - “The holiday season is a time for sharing and giving thanks for our blessings and the good works of others. I’m delighted to be here along with the Marines and U.S. Embassy junior officers to provide a little holiday joy for these special children,” said U. S. Ambassador Garza.
Today Ambassador Garza delivered hundreds of toys to two local charities that assist children suffering from cancer. This year Embassy junior officers, led by Melissa Martinez, collected toys from the Embassy and local Mexican communities. Additionally, the U.S. Marine Corps annually sponsors the “Toys for Tots” program at locations throughout the world. The Ambassador, Marines, and junior officers handed out the toys collected today—including an X-box, a bicycle, and hundreds of dolls and trucks-- to individual children within the two albergues.
“The Casa de la Amistad para Niños con Cáncer and the Asociación Mexicana de Ayuda a Niños con Cáncer are remarkable organizations that provide assistance and care to suffering children and their families,” added Ambassador Garza. “These charities represent the true spirit of the holidays; each day they work tirelessly to provide a care and a better future for these special Mexican children.”
